Chocolate Tour of Scottsdale

If you love chocolate and are visiting Scottsdale, or you live around the area and are looking for something fun to do, you must do this tour.

This new addition to the tourism offer of the Valley is run by Ofelia, the owner and a chocolate lover herself. The Chocolate Tour of Scottsdale is a tour made up by the exact amount of perfectly picked stores and just enough time to have an enjoyable -and delicious- evening without feeling overwhelmed and tired.

The walking tour began with a small taste of some deliciousness from Julia Baker, a store that is a bit far from the are to visit but that Ofelia doesn’t want the chocolate lovers to miss.

The first stop is Paula Jacqueline, a local cake and pastries shop. They are independently owned and specializes in beautiful and great tasting wedding cakes. We were offered some marvellous chocolate ganache cake pops. I need to go again and get more!

The next stop was at Chocolade Van Brugge. The owners, Frederiek and Christine are originally from Belgium, and all the chocolate in the store is imported from there. We received a couple of samples individually bagged for us to either try at the spot or enjoy later. We were also offered a taste of authentic Belgian hot chocolate. I have to say it was the best hot chocolate I have ever had in my life.

We continued our tour and walked inside an old fashioned ice cream parlor. The founder, originally from Denmark, opened Petersen’s ice cream shop in Chicago 95 years ago. Long after his dead, the original shop was sold but the Petersen family in Arizona opened the Scottsdale location in 2012, continuing with the traditional recipes from almost a 100 years ago.  We were able to taste unique flavors such as Turtle, Moose Tracks and Superman. Want to know the ingredients? You’ll have to pay this little jewel a visit!

The fourth stop was at the award winning cake shop Classic Cakes and Confections. You’ll be amazed by their incredible cake designs. Some of them you can’t even believe that are actually cakes. We were able to taste some amazing truffles, as well.

Inside the Fashion Square mall, we visited Caketini, a locally owned cake shop with several locations around the Valley. With an entire display of cake pops and pastries, this store is tiny cake paradise. We were offered some finger licking ricotta cannoli.

Our next stop was Godiva. Do I need to say more? We were offered a truffle of our choice. I decided to grab the strawberry creme truffle for a change. Yum yum!!

The last stop of that night was at Sprinkles cupcakes. Two great things came out of there that day. First, I found a couple of treats for Reba dog and Sophie dog. Second, we got to see the brand new store cupcake ATM. They were running some tests that weekend for the grand opening the following Tuesday.  That day, 10 golden tickets worth for 10 dozens of cupcakes each were going to be hidden on in the cupcake boxes. It was fun to see that!

Normally, the last stop is at Tapas Papas Frita, however, that particular night it was closed for a private event. So after being amazed by the ATM, Ofelia held a raffle and passed some extra chocolate goodies for the group!

If you are around the area or are going to be, I totally recommend doing this tour. This is a seasonal activity, October through mid April, once the weather gets hot, it won’t be available. Don’t miss it!
